Computer and monitor - iMac
|
This picture shows an iMac, this has a built in
computer and monitor all in one. This would be ideal for a graphics designer
because one thing that can be done with this computer is they could easily
put their tools onto one side of the screen as it is 27” screen. This also
has a 3.2GHz inter core allowing it to be faster at loading up applications
and connecting etc. It also has Intel iris pro graphics, the designer could
use this to allow his graphics to be even better.
However, there is one main limitation to this
product. You could get a more adaptable computer and monitor for cheaper than
the price of this, but this stands out more because of the smooth appearance.

Mouse – Apple magic mouse
|
The graphic designer would need an appropriate
mouse; it would need to be comfortable, sensitive and handy as they would be
using it frequently. This is an Apple magic mouse, this has been
ergonomically designed so that it is comfortable and slide into the hand of
the user so it can be used easily and is comfortable. Another thing that
makes this a good mouse for a graphics designer is that the bottom of the
mouse has smooth pads allowing it to be used on different surfaces and still
moving smoothly. One of the main advantages to this mouse is that it is
wireless, this means time won’t be wasted plugging it in and untangling
wires.
One main limitation is that this mouse could be
dropped and get damaged as it isn’t connected to a wire.
|
Keyboard – Apple magic keyboard
|
This picture shows an Apple magic keyboard. There
are many advantages and reasons to why this would be good for a graphics
designer. One reason that it would be useful is again that it is wireless
meaning that it can be put a distance from the computer itself and still
connect. Also it is very slim-lined and very tactile which helps when typing,
which a graphic designer will do a lot when researching/inserting text etc.
Also the keyboard is tilted upwards towards the
user’s eye so that it can see easier and used easier.

Input Devices
Camera – Nikon D5100
|
This camera would be ideal for a graphics designer
in many ways. One main way is that this camera has full 1080p HD, meaning
that the graphics designer can take outstanding pictures with the best quality
for his work. Another way that this camera would be good for the graphics
designer is that effects and designs can be added easily; also this camera
has a front screen making the picture visible and allowing the settings to be
changed easily. This camera also has an 11 point zoom, meaning that the
designer can easily zoom into things that are far away which helps when
taking the photography for the things they are designing.
One limitation to this camera is that the
autofocus can jump sometimes which could ruin an image or make it hard to
take.
|
Scanner - HP Scanjet 200 Flatbed
|
This photo scanner would also be good for a
graphics designer for many reasons. One reason is that it has compatible
operating systems allowing it to scan photos from various programs from
windows 7, windows 8 and windows vista etc. This allows that graphics
designer to make use of all the programs. This scanner is also good as it
only costs £55, this means that they are saving money as some scanners can
cost over £300. This scanner is a flatbed which makes it easy to slide under
something so that it doesn’t hang out somewhere it could get damaged.
One limitation of this scanner is that the scanner
buttons can be confusing and can get worn down easily that some more
expensive scanners.

Graphics Tablet - Wacom Intuos4 PTK-640
|
This graphics tablet has a surface structure that
allows it to be stroked with the pen easier; this makes the graphics easier
to design and more realistic. This also has a curved shape so that it can be
used in a more simple position to keep it comfortable and easy to use. This
makes it good for a graphics designer because they do lots of graphics so
would want it to be in a good, comfortable position. One limitation to this
product is that it isn’t very big which means when it is enlarged on a
computer it may not look as you expected.
|
Output Devices
Printer - Epson WorkForce WF-2530
|
This printer
would be a very ideal output device for a graphics designer for many reasons.
One reason is that it can print of things for them e.g. final designs. Also
this printer is wireless and can be connected to with Wi-Fi allowing photos
and pictures to be sent by things such as mobile phones to it and printed
easily. This is better and quicker because phones and computers don’t have to
be connected with equipment that the designer might not have. Also if it’s
quicker it saves money because less electricity is left on for long times.
One limitation to this printer is that it is quite
big meaning that it would have to have a big space for it to go wherever the
graphics designer wants it.
|
Projector – Optoma GT7000
|
The picture to the left shows an Optoma GT7000,
this is a projector and it would be ideal for a graphics designer for many
reasons. One reason why it would be good for a graphics designer is that it
small and lightweight making it easy to take around, also the projector can
be connected to a computer easily allowing files and things such as documents
to be viewed easily. The projector enlarges the documents without making them
look pixelated.
One main limitation to this projector is that it
can overheat fairly easily making it make a lot of noise; this can be
disrupting if watching something or showing a presentation.

Vinyl cutter- Summa cut D 60
|
This vinyl cutter would be ideal for a graphics
designer for many reasons. One reason is that the cutters combine both a
durable drag-knife cutting head with Summa internal advanced programming to
deliver quality & versatility found in no other drag-knife cutter. This
will make the work look more professional.
One limitation to this vinyl cutter is that
because it is one of the best vinyl cutters it means that it is very
expensive which may mean it may be to be expensive for a graphic designer.

File storage devices – Seagate 4TB
|
This device is a 4TB hard drive. This is good
because it is recognised by programs such as windows, this means that it
doesn’t have to regularly install as it is completely up to date. This saves
the graphics designer time. Also this has a 4TB memory system; this means
that the graphics have enough space to be saved thousands of times without
filling up the memory. This keeps all the work together helping to keep
everything together organised so it doesn’t get lost. Also it can be backed
up meaning deleted or lost files can be restored.
One limitation to this product is that it has to
update regularly to keep up to date with the programs; this means that the
graphic designer might have to update programs because some might not open in
updated programs.

Software
Desktop publisher – Publisher
Desktop Publishing is the creation of documents
using page layout skills on a personal computer. This technology allows
individuals, businesses, and other organizations to self-publish a wide range
of printed products. It allows people to produce a wide variety of materials,
from menus to magazines and books etc. And is cheaper than commercial
printing.
Publisher software is one of the best programmes for designing leaflets and other documents. One limitation to this programme is that it takes a long time to know how to use the programme and get used to using the tools. |
Vector and Bitmap Software
Vector software and bitmap software are similar
but have some distinct differences. Vector software has a much clearer image,
whereas bitmap software is more distorted and pixelated making it harder to
recognise the image.File types that a vector image can be saved as are PNGs and EPS’s. Bitmap images are based on pixels and so when scaled
there is a loss of vision, while vector-based graphics can be scaled by any
amount without distorting quality.
Bitmaps need to be edited. you can do this in Photoshop CS6, you can edit images, and change them to make them look different. One limitation is that the programme has lots of complicated tools and ways of manipulating the image which can be very difficult to learn. Vectors can be designed well on Adobe Illustrator, they can be made and designed on this website. One limitation to this programme is that it can be difficult to scale large designs as the canvas size has a maximum size of 227cm. |
P1
ReplyDeletewww: you have described the elements well.
ebi: you actually specify the software to use.
M1
www: you have suggested some good limitations.
ebi: you think about graphic limitations for example:
Scanner: only scan A4 documents.
Printer: can't print to the edge/ only print on paper
Camera: resolution/ megapixels not enough for large format printing
Still no vector or bitmap software suggested. (p1)
ReplyDeletewww P1 Excellent work. You have described the hardware and software used to create and edit graphic images. You have also added limitations of different hardware and software packages used in graphics work, good effort.
